Nausicaa
Nausicaa, daughter of King Alcinous, finds Odysseus on the shores of the Phaeacian island of Scheria. He is stranded and exhausted after being shipwrecked, having washed ashore after leaving Calypso's island. Nausicaa discovers him while she is washing clothes by the river and, feeling compassion for him, offers him assistance and guidance to her father's palace.
Odysseus met Nausicaa in the land of the Phaeacians, specifically near the shore of their island, Scheria. After being shipwrecked and washed ashore, he encountered Nausicaa while she was washing clothes with her maidens by a river. Their meeting marked a pivotal moment in his journey, as Nausicaa provided him with aid and guidance to reach her parents' palace.
The night before Nausicaa meets Odysseus, Athena comes to her in a dream and encourages her to go to the river. Nausicaa believes that if she washes her clothes the next day, more men will court her. Odysseus comes across Nausicaa and her handmaidens and humbly pleas for their assistance. The princess tells him to wash himself in the river. When she comes back she finds him so handsome that she begins to fall in love.
In Homer's "Odyssey," Athena visits Nausicaa in a dream and tells her to go do her laundry at the river the next day so she can meet Odysseus, who will help her return home. This subliminal message encourages Nausicaa to take action that will lead to her meeting Odysseus and ultimately furthering his journey.
