The first successful expedition to circumnavigate the globe was Ferdinand Magellan. The Portuguese explorer sailed around the Earth from 1519 to 1522.
Bartholomeu Dias's expedition was significant because he was the first European to sail around the southern tip of Africa, demonstrating the feasibility of a sea route to the Indian Ocean. This paved the way for the Portuguese to establish trade routes with Asia, leading to the Age of Discovery and European imperialism.

Ferdinand Magellen was a Spanish explorer who lived in the 16th century. He is best known for leading the first expedition around the world. He, however, didn't make it because he was killed in what is now the Philippines. I know of no war he was in.
The first person to sail all the way around the Earth was Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer. His expedition, which began in 1519, was the first to successfully circumnavigate the globe, although Magellan himself was killed in the Philippines in 1521 before completing the journey. The expedition was completed by Juan Sebastián Elcano, who took command after Magellan's death and returned to Spain in 1522.
