After the boat that phillip was on torpedoed, Timothy rescued him and put him on the raft with him
Phillip fellings towards Timothy were very cruelfull
In the novel "The Cay" by Theodore Taylor, Phillip and Timothy are stranded on a raft in the Caribbean after their boat is torpedoed. The story primarily focuses on their survival, so there are no other characters on the raft with them. The main themes revolve around their relationship and the challenges they face together in isolation.
Phillip and Timothy have a few essential items on the raft, including a makeshift sail for navigation, fishing gear, and some supplies for food and water. These items are crucial for their survival as they drift in the ocean. The raft serves as their only means of escape and protection while they await rescue.
Timothy wouldn't permit Phillip to join him on the raft primarily for safety reasons. He believed that Phillip, who was blind and inexperienced, would be a liability and could jeopardize their chances of survival. Additionally, Timothy wanted to ensure Phillip's safety while he navigated the challenges of the ocean, emphasizing the need for careful planning and responsibility in their dire situation.
Phillip is initially mad at Timothy in "The Cay" because he blames Timothy for their shipwreck, believing that Timothy did not properly steer their raft. This creates tension between them as they struggle to survive on the uninhabited island. However, as they face various challenges together, Phillip learns to appreciate Timothy's wisdom and strength, and their relationship evolves over time.
It is noon on the third day of being on the raft when Timothy hears a motor. After moving around a little, Timothy informs Phillip that it is an aircraft. Phillip is thinking when he hears the hinges on the trap door creak and Timothy rips off one the legs from their shelter and tears a piece of cloth. Phillip smells cloth burning and knows what is happening. Timothy is holding the wrapped piece of wood toward the sky, trying to signal. But the drone is already fading away. Timothy yells in the direction the aircraft is going. Phillip crawls over to the edge of the raft and touches the water. Timothy warns Phillip about the dangers of the sharks. Thinking out loud, Timothy states (translated)," The cat is not good luck, but to cause the death of a cat is very bad luck." Phillip asks what is in the sky. Timothy states that there is nothing much except a bird every now and then. He continues, saying that a while ago he saw a booby fly across the sky. After asking what a booby looks like, Phillip wonders if he will ever see a bird again.
They were floating on a makeshift raft which drifted to the island. They decided to stay there and look for help.
Hahaha nice question about food anyway he falls off the raft because Timothy says there's and island and phillip says "Where?" and starts walking to the front of the raft, and because he's blind, he falls off. Dat be true young bahss.
Phillip's feelings towards Timothy on the raft evolve from fear and mistrust at first to deep admiration, respect, and love as they work together to survive. Timothy becomes a father figure to Phillip, teaching him valuable life lessons and helping him navigate the challenges they face. Their bond grows strong as they rely on each other for survival in the face of adversity.
