Thomas Hooker, Roger Williams, and Anne Hutchinson left the Massachusetts Bay Colony due to religious and political disagreements with the Puritan leadership. Hooker sought more democratic governance and religious freedom, leading him to establish Connecticut. Williams advocated for the separation of church and state and the fair treatment of Native Americans, founding Rhode Island. Hutchinson challenged the Puritan orthodoxy, promoting her own interpretations of scripture, which ultimately led to her exile from the colony.
