Not sure what this means. Hawai`ians are a nationality of people not a tribe.

A tribe is viewed, historically or developmentally, as a social group existing before the development of, or outside of, a norm. In that case, it then becomes a very derogatory term becasue it indicates that the group of people to whom it refers is not the norm or lesser than the norm. For example, the US should not refer to native americans as tribes of indians because they (the natives) were neither indians nor abnormal. Since they were here first, and their ways of life were already established, then they were the norms, and the spanish and others whom now call themselves americans were actually the tribal (differing) cultures.
