The first of the Five Civilized Tribes to be removed to the west was the Choctaw Tribe. This was as a result of the United States government's Indian policy which was implemented in the 1830's and 1840's.
The five tribes that made up the Five Civilized Tribes are the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek (Muscogee), and Seminole. These tribes were known for adopting various cultural practices and lifestyles similar to European Americans in the 19th century. They played significant roles in the history of the southeastern United States, especially during the period of Indian removal.

Besides the Five Civilized Tribes, other notable Indian tribes include the Sioux, Apache, Cheyenne, and Iroquois. Each of these tribes has its distinct culture and history, often reflecting their geographic locations and ways of life. Other tribes, such as the Navajo, Ojibwe, and Lakota, also play significant roles in the broader narrative of Indigenous peoples in North America.
