However, calling it as "lowest" has no meaning. It was not a up-down approach rather it was meant for dividing work among people having abilities. All caste are equal but have different set of skills and abilities so the caste. Brahmins were categorized to whom have brilliant knowledge of literature and karma. Kshatriya were designated for protection, security, power and military aspects. Vaishyas were meant for business, economical purposes and last but not the least Kshudras were the division who were actually in works of cleaning, on grounds work performing people.

Person belonging to a particular caste may switch to different one when he/she have special ability to do that division of tasks or gain the knowledge of doing it with proper guidance from a teacher of that caste. A Brahmin can become Kshudra. A Kshatriya can become Brahmin and so on.
