Generally, the various groups encompassed by that name have a tradition of making their own tools, hunting, fishing and sharing the rewards of the hunt with the extended families of the members of the hunting party. Therefore their economy has been generally based on the hunt and the redistribution of the products of the hunt. Historically, they hunted seals, whales, fish, caribou and any other available animal food sources. They craft items from non-food animal materials left over from the slaughtering of the animals (bone, oils, sinew, hides, etc.) to use or trade. Global warming trends and dwindling numbers of wildlife have had a terrible effect on their lives.
