Cherokee stories tell the story of the world around them, and their place in it. One large, and main difference is that our stories never had a "morals" clause at the end of it - it was part of the religious and cultural belief that the search for this 'morals clause' was the point of the story.

For example the story of "The woman and the snake" or "Law of the Snake" can be fully translated into 2 semi-english words "Habeas Corpus." These terms however involve a concept that the average person cannot understand.
