Types of clothing worn by the Acadians when they first left France was the simple peasant-type dress. As soon as they were settled, garments became made of wool and linen, and cottons in the 1800's evolving to whatever fabrics were available at the store. In the 1850's men adopted the tailored suit look, and woman mantelet and skirt, trading the wooden clogs for moccasins.
