What was Sacagawea's occupation?

She translated to other native American tribes. Plus, she carried her baby Jean on her back. So instead of the expedition being mistakin for an army, other native tribes would never attack a group with a women and an infant. What a cool way of protection!

Sacagawea came on the Corps of Discovery as the wife of Toussaint Charbonneau, the person Lewis and Clark hired as an interpreter. However, she ended up being an important part of the expedition.

Sacagawea knew what was edible and gathered food to eat or that could be used as medicine. She made clothing for the men and showed them how to make clothing. She also became part of the interpreter circle, translating Shoshone to Hidatsa. She was familiar with the terrain they traveled through and was able to barter for the horses the expedition needed.

Probably her most important part of the expedition was that having a woman with a child announced to the Indians that the Corps of Discovery did not constitute a war party, rather it was a party of peace.
