1876
At the battle of little big horn yelling charge like a school boy. That's what the child murderer gets.
Custer was shot in the left breast, just below the left nipple, and also in the left temple. The breast wound bled ... the head wound did not. Thus, the breast wound was likely the fatal wound, and the head wound was likely done post-mortem.
It was named to honor George Armstrong Custer who had met his fate a year before the county was formed.
A short time after the battle Custer's body was found lying on top of another dead soldier, shot in the chest and in the left temple. On the ground next to him, 17 shells from Custer's Remington sports rifle were identified; his brother Tom Custer and adjutant Lt Cooke lay dead close by, shot with many arrows. All the bodies were stripped and mutilated, except that of Lt Colonel Custer, who only had awls thrust into his ears.
George Armstrong Custer married Elizabeth Bacon on February 9, 1864. Their marriage took place during the Civil War, shortly before Custer gained prominence as a cavalry officer. Elizabeth became a significant part of Custer's life and legacy, often accompanying him during his military campaigns.
The gun that killed George Armstrong Custer during the Battle of Little Bighorn, which took place on June 25-26, 1876, is believed to be a single-shot rifle, specifically a .45-70 caliber Springfield Model 1873. This rifle is currently housed at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana. While the exact gun that delivered the fatal shot to Custer has not been definitively identified, several artifacts and weapons from the battle are preserved and displayed at the site.
Arthur Custer's birth name is Arthur Russell Custer.
The address of the Custer County Library is: 447 Crook Street Suite 4, Custer, 57730 1509
The Battle of the Little Bighorn is also called Custer's Last Stand because Custer was defeated and killed in the battle. The battle occurred in June 1876.
Custer is named after general Custer who led the battle againts the Indians from the dakotas
They found two gunshot wounds. One to the head and one below the heart. The temple shot had powder marks on it indicating close range. Some of the indians were known to shoot dead people after the fight. However, it indicates also suicide because he would have been tortured if captured. Also temple shot is classic suicide shot. Apparently had a smile on his face. He wasn't scalped like the other men indicating he wasn't worthy of the respect of the indians as they believed it an honor to scalp. Suicide is held very low by the Indians.
