I guess once you die, your hands and feet do wrinkle even more if placed in water (after a long time only) because if you die, your skin cells will die quite shortly and thus your hair will die.You stop producing sebum.

Sebum:(thanks wikipedia!)

Sebaceous glands secrete the oily, waxy substance called sebum (Latin, meaning fat or tallow) that is made of fat (lipids), wax, and the debris of dead fat-producing cells.[3] In the glands, sebum is produced within specialized cells and is released as these cells burst; sebaceous glands are thus classified as holocrine glands.

Sebum is odorless, but its bacterial breakdown can produce odors. Sebum is the cause of some people experiencing "oily" hair,[4] as in hot weather or if not washed for several days. Earwax is partly composed of sebum. Excessive sebum can be cleansed with detergent (as found in shampoo for oily hair), rather than just using bath soap.[4] Sebum secretion might increase after the first cleansing, so a secondary wash might be needed sooner (such as within half a day). Also, sebum will remain at lower temperatures, when rinsing hair with cold water, so showers should rinse in warm water (as between 37-38ºC, 98-100ºF).[5] Excess sebum has been linked to eating red meats, fried, oily or other foods, but studies are not conclusive.Sebum acts to protect and waterproof hair and skin,[6] and keeps them from becoming dry, brittle and cracked by dehydration. It can also inhibit the growth of some microorganisms (such as some bacteria) on the skin.[6]

What causes skin to wrinkle after a long bath?

Because the Keratin in our hands & feet absorbs the water & produces swelling. As a result, the excess amount of Stratum Corneum in the skin produces wrinkles. The hands & feet are the only places this occurs because the skin is thicker on the hands & feet than anywhere else on the body.

Do fingers and toes wrinkle after prolonged in seawater?

Why doesnt your skin on your stomach wrinkle after you swim?

The skin on your stomach doesn't wrinkle after swimming because it is less exposed to water compared to areas like your hands and feet. The thicker skin on your abdomen retains moisture better and doesn't absorb as much water. Additionally, the wrinkling effect is primarily due to the outer layer of skin absorbing water and swelling, which is more pronounced in thinner, more delicate skin.

Why do your hands and feet peel and wrinkle when you get out of water?

The outermost layer of the skin swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin underneath, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. However, new research is investigating the role of digital vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels) of water immersion wrinkling of the skin.
