Obviously, the life insurer will not pay when a patient policy holder is taken off life support. Unless the hospital authority officially signs the death certificate of the patient, the clinical death will not be officially recoginised from insurance point of view.
I wasn't aware it had any affect.
This depends on what the patient's pathology is, and how dependent on the life support equipment they are for sustaining life. There have been rare cases where, once removed from the life support equipment, the patient started breathing and eventually recovered to a point where they didn't need the life support equipment to survive. More often, mortality occurs minutes, hours or days after disconnect. Again, it depends on the patient.
When a patient needs a machine, or a ventilator to breath for them, then that patient is on artificial life support. When a patient does not have the ability to breath on their own, or eat on their own, they will need artificial life support, or they will die.
It's possible.

Morphine may be administered to someone being taken off life support to manage pain and alleviate discomfort during the process. It can also help ease anxiety and promote a sense of calm for both the patient and their loved ones. Additionally, morphine can help ensure a peaceful transition, allowing the patient to pass away with dignity. Ultimately, the goal is to prioritize comfort and quality of life in their final moments.
