According to The Bible, Methuselah, son of Enoch, lived to the age of 969 years. The Bible lists quite a few people who lived for over 800 or 900 years before the Great Flood, but after the flood the Bible says that the lifespan would be limited to 120 years.

The oldest person ever whose age has been verified was Jeanne Calment of France (1875-1997), who lived to the age of 122 years and 164 days. She is the only known person to live past the age of 120.

The oldest man ever is alive at the time of this writing. Jiroemon Kimura of Japan (1897-) turned 116 on April 19, 2013. He has been the oldest man ever since December 28, 2012.
