If the circuit of the panic button is monitored for a break in its circuit, the contacts will be in a N.C. configuration. There will need to be a relay in the circuit that is kept energized by the buttons closed contacts. When the relay drops out, its N.C. circuit contacts will activate the panic buttons load. If the panic button has no monitoring features then the contacts across the button will be wired in the N.O. configuration. When the button is pushed the circuit closes.
On my 2004 Siverado I simply opened up the key fob and pulled the circuit board from the rubber liner that has the buttons molded into it. Then I scraped off the black dot from the back of the panic button. I just used my fingernail to pull it off. No more panic attacks when fumbling for my keys!

I believe a panic disorder is worse than a panic attack.You can have a panic attack once but when you start having recurrent panic attacks and it begins to affect aspects of your life it becomes a panic disorder. Do you have the "valet key" (black FOB key with the auto-lock & 'panic' buttons are)? We had this problem with our '98 E320 and it turned out the battery in the valet key needed replacing.
