it is just the slowing down of breathing rate.the heart slows down blood pumpingthat leads to drowsiness & brain stops working cause death.

I just lost a close uncle this week and when we found him, he was in as relaxed a position as possible and one very typical of him, so we know it was peaceful. But we also know he was in excellent health for an 83-year-old and saw a doctor frequently, and took good care of himself.
So, that doesn't answer the question, and I don't think he means it was pulmonary failure that started a cascade through one's vital systems. I would think one would struggle or wake up if this started to happen.
