It depends on the level of the paralysis and they type of paralysis. A spinal cord severance below the waist will cause loss of leg feeling and control of the bladder and digestive system. The higher you go the more loss of feeling and less controls you have. If you loose feeling below the neck you can lose the ability to draw in breath and release breath. If you are paralyzed due to stroke you can use lose of muscles or dexterity in your hands or feet. You can lose feeling too. You can lose a lot of function of your facial movements and the ability to swallow. Some stroke patients can regain use of their limbs and facial muscles with hare rehabilitation.
