I would say, based on my own personal experience of being in the woods and finding myself counting on my equipment and knowledge, it would be despair and emotion based decisions. I know this isn't a physical cause, and it would be easy to say thirst or exposure but I believe your own stability and the ability to make good decisions is the guiding factor.
