Beyond showing respect for the body, there is no set doctrine about burial of the dead. By tradition most members of the faith are buried but there is no actual requirement to do so. Members who have made temple covenants (basically covenanting in an LDS Temple to obey the commandments and otherwise live according to the Gospel) are usually buried in white clothing and their graves dedicated by a member of the Church holding the Melchizedek (senior) priesthood as a final resting place of their body until the resurrection.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) uses the scriptures as the basis of all doctrine. The scriptures of the Mormon canon are the Bible (King James Version), Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.
