In July of 1998, while taping an interview for ESPN, Rod suffered a major stroke. As a result, he spent 13 days in intensive care unit and almost died. Since that time he has made a remarkable recovery and despite an arthritic wrist, still plays tennis at his American home in Carlsbad California.
