Death camps were a simple way to do mass murders.
The largest death camps were in Poland. Germany had death camps also but on a lessor scale. The Germans were responsible for all of them.
It depends on what you mean by what was the solution to the camps, if you mean to the American then all they did was liberate them. If you mean to the Germans then the solution "The answer to the Jewish question" as it was called was to build Death Camps. These were where the Germans killed the women and children in gas chambers, and starved them. Another way was to starve them. when they were dead the Germans would burn them in what they called crematorium which were huge ovens used to burn them in mass numbers.
Poland
I have no clue.
The Germans killed Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and handicapped people in the camps.
They were put into camps.
The Germans in the concentration camps were mostly responsible for security, they were the guards and the executioners.
The Nazi death camps was put into use after the occupation of Poland in 1939. After the Nazis had Jews, poles and other groups of people who were procecuted by the Nazis. Nazis wanted to kill all the Jews and any Non-Aryan Germans, so they decided to establish bunch of Death camps and Extermination camps.

According to research reports, Nazis actually set up 20 000 concentration camps.
Most Germans did know, at least that the camps existed. Some kidded themselves that they were just forced labor camps. Some knew they were death camps, but as it was "just Jews", they didn't care.
The Germans set-up many camps in occupied Poland perhaps 2,000. These included concentration and labour camps mostly for ethnic Poles. There were also ghettos and death camps most for ethnic Jews.
