Exercise most definitely helps you lose "belly fat". I cycle 24 miles per day, 5 to 6 days a week. I went from 10st 10 to 9st 6 in 3 months. The one thing i would say is that you have to practice a healthy diet. There is no point in training if you do not eat the right foods. It is counterproductive. Because cycling is a cardio physical activity, carbs are an essential part of your training. It is important to find a happy balance between carbs and protein, (Protein diets can be unsafe and should only ever last for a maximum of 2 weeks, and they are on the whole a short term solution to the problem). in my experience it is best to have carbs in the morning or early afternoon, with high protein consumption in the mid afternoon to evening. (High protein consumption in the evening will help build and tone the muscle that has been exercised that day). If at all possible it is better to not eat past 6 or 7 p.m. Don't get me wrong i enjoy a "pig out" every now and again but that's exactly what it should be, and there is nothing wrong with having a chocolate biscuit with your tea just not the whole pack! Although you will lose weight as a result of your exercise and diet regime, don't be to fixated with your bathroom scales. Muscle weighs more than fat and you may well find yourself fluctuating a few pounds up and down because your body will begin to amass muscle throughout your body, as cycling is an "all over body" workout. it's how you look and feel that should matter. Hope that helps answer your question. I would be happy to answer any other questions on sport, fitness and healthy eating.

Bicycling has no noticeable impact on belly fat compared to other fat stores on your body. One day of cycling will help you lose belly fat, but it will also help reduce fat from all other places where it's stored. Furthermore, the fat lost on the first day may not be visible, and may actually return before the following day without dietary prudence. The only way to target fat loss to a specific area of the body is by drugs and surgery, and both are potentially dangerous.
Bodybuilding, or weight training, is an excellent way to help burn belly fat. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you will burn, thus belly fat will reduce significantly.
