Obesity is strictly a condition of overeating calories except in such cases as taking certain medications or medical conditions which can lead to rather severe edema, or water and flud retention, but these are not, technically, obesity. One can eat a great deal of lettuce and that may help control obestiy, but lettuce alone would not constitute a healthful diet, although lettuce in proper proportion to the rest of the diet might be a healthful food.
