Foods are broken down by digestive juices into nutrients. These nutrients are carried carried throughout the body and broken down into carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and fats which are used for energy, cell repair and growth.

Digestion starts in the mouth with the saliva and ends in the large intestines and exits through the anus and rectum.

Proteins are broken down into amino acids. Starches are broken down into sugars. Etc.
