You are probably worried about fatty foods because you hear all the time that they are bad for you. It is true that some of them are better than others. But eating some fatty foods is absolutely essential, especially for children and young people who are growing. Fat provides energy, helps insulate your body and keep it warm, and is a vital part of many cells in your body. Fat also makes some foods taste better. Some vitamins that we all need, such as A, D, E and K, can only be absorbed into our body when combined with fat. BUT fat is full of calories. There are about twice as many calories in each gram of fat, like butter or cheese, as in carbohydrate foods like bread. Too much fat in your diet, especially from meat and cheese, can make you fat.
