A pound of fat is equivalent 3000 calories, so in order to lose one you have to expend 3000 calories worth of your body - that's energy that will come from stored fat, food you're metabolizing, and muscle tissue being cannibalized as a metabolic process. I bet you could probably run a little less than a mile per 100 calories, depending on how efficient your running technique is (stride, etc.) and how well toned you are.

You can lose 'weight' in other ways, of course. When you exercise for prolonged periods, your body sheds water, which, on the scale, may deceive you into thinking that you've lost more weight than you have - of course, as you eat or drink later, your body will retain more water from what you intake to hydrate and help you recover. So really, water weight doesn't count.
