A person doesn't need meat- they need protein. Current recommendations on a 2000 calorie diet call for 65 grams of protein a day, but this doesn't need to be derived from meat. Egg whites and soybeans are excellent non-meat sources of protein. When you do consume meat, choose sources that are lower in saturated fat and cholesterol and higher in omega-3 fats. Lean chicken, turkey and high omega-3 fish such as salmon are all good choices.
