Are you asking about grain, grass, or hay?
Grain- a 900lb horse can usually have 1/3 of a coffee can full.
Hay- They will continue eating all day but they can have 4-6 flakes a day.(less if in pasture)
Grass- Horses will eat as much grass as possible, as they are grazing animals, and they should be allowed to eat for a few hours in the pasture daily.
They can also drink 12lbs of water or more daily so they should always have that on hand.
(Be careful not to overfeed with grain or you could increase the chance of colicking. To help prevent this you can wait an hour after they are done working to feed, and if you plan on riding them after they eat, you should wait an hour for him to digest)
Hope this helps you :)
19.8 pounds per day. (900/100 = 9. 2.2 x 9 = 19.8)
19.8
howrse: 19.8 poundsIt depends on how much work the horse is doing and how much other food its getting.
19.8 pounds of hay
You multiply 2.2 by 9 to get 19.8lbs, or about 20lbs.
It would be 2.2 x 9, so the answer would be 19.8 pounds of hay per day!
If a horse needs 2.2lbs of hay per 100lbs of body weight per day, a 900lb horse needs 19.8lbs of hay per day. 2.2 times the value of (900 divided by 100)=19.8 900 divided by 100 is equal to 9 2.2 times 9 is equal to 19.8
About 13 pounds
when you buy a hay bale, give the horse 4 flakes per day. i don't know that 2.2 lbs of hay per 100 lbs of body weight though... that would mean it gets 1980 lbs of hay a day and that is definitely wrong!
2.2 lbs is sufficient for 100 lbs pounds of body weight so:per pound requirement = 2.2/100 = 0.022requirement for 900 lbs body = 0.022 x 900 = 19.8lbs19.8 lb
Here's the formula: (weight)/100 * 2.2 = pounds of hay per day your answer is 19.8, but that number is only a starting point. your horse may eat more or less in a day, and may need to be restricted because of obesity. free choice hay is best, but be mindful of the wasted hay.
for howrse ... 19.8 Answer 2: Horses require anywhere from 1% to3% of their body-weight in feed a day. Going by a strict number such as 2.2 pounds of hay per 100 pounds of body-weight can cause problems if the horse is an easy or hard keeper as it may be too much or too little. However at 2.2 pounds per 100 pounds of body-weight for a 900 pound horse that would equal out to 19.8 pounds of hay a day. ( 2.2 x9=19.8).
