The best way to understand in what weight category you fall, is to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI).

To calculate your BMI you can use either of the two equations below:

BMI = weight (in kg) / height^2 (in meters squared)

BMI = weight (in lbs) * 703 / height^2 (in inches squared)

The categories for BMI are:

  • Underweight = <18.5
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30-39.9
  • Morbid Obesity = MBI of 40+
Your BMI is 18.98

In terms of fat percentage, the American Dietetics Association provides the following general guidelines:

----------------------Normal---------------Overweight---------------Obese

Female-------------15%-25%------------25.1%-29.9%-------------30%+

Male----------------10%-20%------------20.1%-24.9%-------------25%+

By Age what is considered normal:

Age----------------------- Female------------------ Male

18yrs-39yrs-------------21%-32%----------------8%-19%

40yrs-59yrs------------ 23%-33%----------------11%-21%

60yrs-79yrs-------------24%-35%----------------13%-24%

Based on all this, I think you can see that your weight is normal and so is your fat percentage.
