A Veritable Variety of Vegetarians

A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs.

A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products.

Types of Vegetarian -

Lacto-ovo-vegetarian Eats both dairy products and eggs. Includes all vegan foods.

This is the most common type of vegetarian.

Lacto-vegetarian Eats dairy products but not eggs. Includes all vegan foods.

Ovo-vegetarian Eats eggs but not dairy products. Includes all vegan foods

Su Vegetarian Excludes all animal products as well as vegetables in the allium family (which have the characteristic aroma of onion and garlic, scallions, or leeks.)

Vegan Does not eat dairy products, eggs, honey, or any other animal product. Vegans may also avoid products in which animal products are used in the production, but might not actually remain in the finished food - this includes sugar and some wines. Also avoids non-food animal products such as leather, wool, down, etc.

Main sources of protein--beans, nuts and seeds, and whole grains.

Raw vegan is a diet which combines veganism and raw foodism. It excludes all food of animal origin, and all food cooked above 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit)

Semi-vegetarian Eats predominantly vegetarian but includes some meat. Also called flexitarian or pseudo-vegetarian.

Transitional vegetarian One who is transitioning to vegetarianism but not quite there yet. Or a temporary vegetarian.

Fruitarian: Same as Vegan, but only eats foods that don't kill the plant (apples can be picked without killing the plant, carrots cannot).

pescetarian: a vegetarian that eats no meat except fish

ADDED BY ANOTHER USER:

Pescetarians, transitional vegetarians, and semi-vegetarians are not vegetarians. People who eat flesh foods or byproducts of the meat industry of any kind do not qualify as a vegetarians.

One becomes a vegetarian only by giving up all flesh foods. Pescetarians, transitional vegetarians, and semi-vegetarians are misnomers and used to make people feel good about being something they are not. Until a person in one of these pseudo-categories gives up meat completely, they are simply selective meat-eaters.
