Besides being unhealthy, junk food usually lacks vitamins, antioxidants or minerals. So it has nothing to keep you going healthy for the day.

It's worth considering that it's not so much the individual food as the entire diet that is the problem. A drive-thru burger and chips every now and then won't hurt you, but such dishes used as a staple would definitely form a junk diet.
