Whole foods in their natural or nearly natural state, without much processing or artificial additives, are nearly always healthy foods. So when choosing healthy foods, look for fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fresh fish, and dairy products and eggs that are free from hormones, antibiotics and chemicals. You can also look for foods made from whole ingredients, such as whole grain bread, raw sugar, and fruit drinks without added sugar, colorings or flavorings. As a general rule, foods and drinks with lots of sugar- particularly refined white sugar and high fructose corn syrup - and lots of fat - such as fried pastries and snack foods - are not as healthy as foods without added sugar and low in fat.
