good calories, like in veggies, lean meat, fruits, nuts etc give your body the energy just to function, and then the energy to be athletic. If you don't have calories your body will shut down, because calories are basically energy (kj). So calories are the kilojoules, or energy in a product, divided by 4. But anyway, calories will do for the body whatever it is the food containing the calories, will do for your body.
EDIT: The truth is CALORIES are only a MEASURE of energy. Calories themselves are not a physical thing. It's sort of hard to understand without going in to a biochemistry lecture. Think of it this way: Your body needs protein, fat, carbs, etc to actually function on a cellular level (which in itself is a simplification, but bear with me). The calorie is a way of expressing how MUCH of those items we need each day. It's sort of like saying "What do ounces do for your body?" Ounces don't do anything, but ounces would be one way of measuring the amount of protein, fat and carbs we need daily. Calories are just much smaller units, we use them as the standard because our bodies utilize much smaller amounts (on the cellular level) than ounces. Hope that makes sense.
which nutrient supplies the body with the most calories
Water does not supply calories to the/our body.............
Unused calories in the body are typically stored as fat.
Calories are a measure of heat energy. Eating foods that contain calories allows your body to expend energy and to maintain body temperature. Excess calories are stored as fat.
There are around 3500 calories in a pound of body fat.
Fat
calories are energy. food contains calories, so when you eat food, the calories within the food power your body.
Unused calories in the body are typically stored as fat for later use.
yes they do burn calories. The body wraps cause your muscles to contract and while they are contracting you are burning calories...you can burn up to 2000 calories in a single session depending on how your body reacts to it. There are studies showing these results.
Calories are not a nutrient, they measure the amount of energy the food has. That said, they are in a way essential because no calories means no energy that food gives your body. Your body needs food for life sustainance
Your body will take in all 1,200 calories that you eat. It then varies per person what the body actually uses those calories for, such as exercise, normal body functions, fat storage, and so on.
(Pure) water has no calories. The body cannot, and does not, metabolize water in order to derive energy (calories) from it.
