I haven't been able to find this answer ANYWHERE either. If you've found out it would be awesome if you could share it here somehow. My ring says the same thing. It's a silver-colored band with raised edges that hold a .25 carat diamond. Two sides of the diamond are exposed. Maybe only rings of this fashion are engraved this way? Anyway, let me know!
