Food waste, called feces or excrement, is forced from the large intestines through peristalsis, a strong muscular contraction. Every person, from early newborn days, produces and excretes their own waste, which exits the body through the anus, which is protected between the buttocks (or butt cheeks). If a person did not regularly excrete waste and gas, it could make the person very sick.
In addition to passing indigestible substances in food (necessary for proper digestion), certain metabolic wastes must also leave the body someplace.
