Very distant relative...all of the therapod (bipedal saurischian) dinosaurs had similarities in their skeletal structures that indicate a kinship with modern birds. Some say that raptors are more likely to be in the direct line.

This is the short of it, the issue is complex, with allot of interesting events and papers written. But it comes down to some researchers, and scientist, are outright disputing the idea, and others are declaring they have all the proof needed, and it's the truth. The chicken is a bird and all birds are believed to be descendants of the dinosaurs, not just T-Rex. It is thought that when the dinosaurs died out, not all did die out, that one was able to survive. This one evolved further into a bird form, to become what we know today as all bird species. So, the chicken is genetically related to the T-Rex, if the proof holds up. Also scientists matched up t-rex body tissue to the chicken's body tissue and it was a match
