There is a lot of evidence to suggest that they did. There are countless eyewitness accounts of these creatures in medieval Europe and they show up in form or another in the histories of virtually every nation in the world, from Korea to Norway to the Americas. Even in Christianity they are mentioned as one of God's greatest creations (Job 41) and one is used to represent the Devil in a vision of Paul's (throughout Revelation). However, only a few sparse sightings exist in modern times, which isn't enough to prove that they still do exist.
