It is one of the many theories. But we don't know for sure what killed them.

A tectonic disaster caused by massive collisions of the Earth's plates would have cause incredibly huge earthquakes, canyons and enormous volcanoes. Earth's plates were still developing during the periods of dinosaurs, so this theory is possible.

The earthquakes and collapsing lands would have caused dinosaurs to fall to their deaths. Those that survived would have been consumed by lava which erupted all over the planet as a result of the Earth's surface splitting open or forming volcanoes.

The sulphuric gasses released from the magma would be poisonous enough to gas the entire planet, choking living creatures and plants. The ash clouds would have also blocked out sunlight.

This is another theory that explains how so many marine dinosaurs survived to evolve into modern creatures, since the water protected them from the lava and gave them something to breathe other than the atmosphere. Masses of exposed magma would also cause torrential rain, as the steam evaporated in the atmosphere. Over time the rain would have cooled the surface of the Earth, creating new landforms and sealing the exposed cracks in the surface.
