Most dinosaurs with long necks and small heads were quadrupedal (four legged) herbivores (plant eaters) called sauropods, and there were many different species of sauropods. Some famous ones include Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, Camarasaurus, Seismosaurus, Argentinosaurus, Ultrasaurus, and Titanosaurus.

Some of the smallest known sauropods (long necked dinosaurs) belonged to the genus Magyarosaurus. When fully grown, they were a mere 6 meters in length, which is very small by sauropod standards. They lived in what is now Romania near the end of the Cretaceous and are thought to be an example of "insular dwarfism", a phenomenon through which some island dwelling species grow smaller over time, probably because islands offer less space and resources (i.e. food) than the mainland. This theory was pioneered by the Hungarian baron Ferenc Nopcsa, who also discovered the Magyarosaurus, and the genus was later named in his honor.
