Quetzalcoatlus died out 65.5 million years ago, at the same time as all other pterosaurs, the non-avian dinosaurs, and many other species became extinct. This is known as the K-T Extinction Event, and it wiped out 75% of Earth's species. The most widely accepted theory for the cause of this extinction is that a 6 mile wide asteroid crashed into the Yucatan Peninsula, leaving a crater that was 100 miles wide. So much ash and dust were launched into the atmosphere by the impact that sunlight was blocked for months or even years. During that time, plants withered and died, leaving plant eaters to starve, and their predators would have in turn died. Quetzalcoatlus was a carnivore, so it would have died after all of its prey disappeared.
