Many house fires are caused by cooking accidents in the kitchen. Frying on a stove is dangerous and unattended cooking fires account for almost half of ALL interior house fires!

Other common sources of house fires include:

  • chimney fires, improperly installed or maintained heating equipment
  • electric heater or wood stove too close to combustibles
  • smoking materials falling on combustibles
  • improper disposal of wood-stove or fireplace ashes
  • worn or overloaded electrical cords or power strips
  • hot light fixtures too close to combustibles (e.g., halogen lamps)
  • children playing with fire (including candles, matches, lighters)
  • fires spreading from an outside fire (rubbish, woods, vehicles)
