The simplest way to prevent dangerous forest fires is to have smaller fires on an annual basis, to remove dead grass and brush. Unfortunately this is not always possible near populated areas, especially if there is a chance of unintentional escalation of the burn.

Prevention includes controlling heated materials during especially dry periods. Open fires may be prohibited. Where allowed, campfires must be thoroughly extinguished and dry material cleared back from around the site. Matches, smoking materials, and ashes from ashtrays should not be carelessly disposed of. Vehicles, with their hot exhaust pipes, should not drive through dry grass.
