In the Boscastle flood of 2004, around 75 properties were destroyed and many others were severely damaged, leading to approximately 150 people losing their homes. The community came together to support those affected and the town has since implemented flood defenses to prevent similar damage in the future.
No one knows the exact number of homes destroyed by Charley in 2004, but estimated damage was $15 billion in the US.

Lots of people lost their homes and jobs because the local shops where flooded. Boscastle thrived mainly on tourism, so the floods destroyed a large part of its income. Electricity supplies were disrupted, trees were uprooted and bridges were damaged. Many people also lost their cars as the wall of water swept through the village and took the cars along, down to the sea.
Unbelievably no one died in the 2004 floods!
