If it is clear liquid and you are alone, it's probably a pharyngeal spasm. Bend forward over a chair and try to let the liquid run out. If you throw up, don't worry about it.You may pass out.You will most likely start breathing on your own. I'm not trying to scare you. This happens to me a lot. I have no uvula. Look in the mirror. See if you have a little fleshy bit at the back of your throat. If you don't see anything, this is probably the cause. I choke on my own saliva sometimes. When this happens in a public place, I've had people try to do the Heimlich Manuever on me.If you can speak, cough or breathe at all, wave them off. It won't help. If this is a constant problem, see your doctor. The biggest danger is aspiration pneumonia. If you are still wheezing or you chest hurts after an hour or so, go to the ER. They will possibly do bronchial suction[not fun] and MAY prescribe meds. If you develop an unstoppable cough, can't take a deep breath or keep wheezing, off to ER. This has been, for me, more annoying and embarassing than dangerous. Of course, everybody is different. As always, when in doubt:DOCTOR!
