This is a rather perplexing question as how can you predict something that has already occurred? Modern technology can and is being used to map the past and from that patterns do emerge but this is obviously not predicting.
Technology can be used to detect diseases before they get too serious.
Instruments used to predict eruptions include seismometers to detect earthquake activity, gas analyzers to monitor changes in gas emissions, thermal cameras to detect changes in temperature, and GPS sensors to measure ground deformation.
