Sunday July 5, 2009 while at the Manasquan Beach with my family at around 3 o'clock a funnel appeared on the sand in the area behind GeeGee's right over the beach where the jetty is. It caused a large beach umbrella, hats, books and other personal belongings to fly up and out to sea resembling confetti at a ticker tape parade. The winds were quessed to be at or greater than 70 miles per hour by lifeguards who witnessed the event. It was briefly frightening but soon turned entertaining in that the umbrella that sailed in the air like a helium balloon that had gotten away from a child finally land in the ocean far enough from harms way of swimmers. A round of applauds erupted in great relief when its descent into the ocean meant no one could get hurt. When I returned home from vacation I searched for a report on the event and was surprised that it didn't make front page news in a local paper there. People who where there shared in a magnificent event.
