Smooth bore firefighting nozzles were developed in the early 20th century, with significant contributions attributed to various fire service professionals. One notable figure is John K. H. Hurst, who is often credited with popularizing their use in the 1950s. The design focuses on creating a solid stream of water, enhancing reach and effectiveness in firefighting. While multiple inventors and innovators contributed to their development, Hurst's advancements helped standardize their use in modern firefighting practices.
