Chernobyl was the site of a nuclear power plant accident in 1986. According to Wiki, it was the worst disaster ever (and I seem to remember that being discussed that when it happened) and the only "level 7" disaster ever, whatever that means.
The Ukraine
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant underwent a level 7 event - the worst accident so far. The plant, located in the Soviet Union near Pripyat in Ukraine lost its number four reactor on 26 April 1986. A link to the Wikipedia article on the accident is provided.
The nuclear reactor that exploded and burned in the 1980s was located near the town of Chernobyl in Ukraine. The Chernobyl disaster, which occurred in 1986, released a significant amount of radioactive material into the environment and is considered one of the worst nuclear accidents in history.
All habitation around the nuclear facility is relocated to safe areas beyond the radiation area. Protective suits and bunkers are made for workers near the nuclear site.

Chernobyl is a city in Ukraine. It was the site of a nuclear disaster in the 1980's and has since been totally abandoned. It is also featured on the Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare as the backdrop to a playable level.
It severely damaged the reactor building and others on the power plant site, but outside the site no damage. Perhaps you think it was a nuclear explosion-it wasn't, it was a steam explosion and whilst it destroyed the reactor it didn't have anything like the blast and heat waves from a nuclear explosion.
