Dont worry, it isn't a ghost or anything. It is most likely your heater/ac. If you live in a townhouse it may also be the person beside you. When i used to stay home alone i heard noises like the water running, but nobody was there, but that's just the water running in the tank. You are most definitely hearing the heater! It can sometimes be deceiving (especially when you think somebody is in your house your imagination plays tricks on you) But there is most likely nothing to worry about ;)
